This invention addresses the problem of providing the following: a rubber composition wherein the properties of said rubber composition when vulcanized are excellent, and at the same time, the amount of heat generated by said rubber composition is low; and a pneumatic tire using said rubber composition. Said rubber composition contains a diene rubber (A), silicon dioxide (B), a silane coupling agent (C), and an acid-modified polyolefin (D). The diene rubber (A) contains at least 30% by mass of an aromatic-vinyl/conjugated-diene copolymer rubber, and the acid-modified polyolefin (D) has at least one repeat unit selected from the group consisting of propylene, 1-butene, and 1-octene. Per 100 mass parts of the diene rubber (A), the rubber composition contains 5 to 150 mass parts of silicon dioxide (B) and a total of 5 to 30 mass parts of the silane coupling agent (C) and the acid-modified polyolefin (D). |
