1,126,100. Variable diameter tube-extrusion. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 21 Nov., 1966, No. 52044/66. Heading B5A. In an extrusion head, the diameter of a rubber or plastics tubular extrudate may be varied by the addition or subtraction of discs 13 which abut a conical core 11. The discs are held in position on a stem 15 by nuts 16, 17 and stem 15 may be axially adjusted in position to alter the dimensions of flow path 12, and hence the thickness of the tubing, by the addition or subtraction of washers 14. An extrudate of non- uniform wall thickness may be obtained by using, e.g. oblate discs 13, see Fig. 5 (not reproduced). Air or lubricant may be introduced via a conduit 9 in mandrels 3 and 6 and stem 15. The head may be heated electrically or by the circulation of water or oil. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a mandrel (18) which converges downstream is used in co-operation with removable discs (19).
