1. A solid oxide fuel cell comprising:
an electrolyte comprising a mixed proton and carbonate ion conductor, the mixed proton and carbonate ion conductor including porous yttrium-doped barium zirconate and a eutectic carbonate mixture, the mixed proton and carbonate ion conductor being formed according to a process that includes impregnating the porous yttrium-doped barium zirconate with the eutectic carbonate mixture and densifying the impregnated porous yttrium-doped barium zirconate at a temperature that is less than about 1000° C., the ionic conductivity of the mixed proton and carbonate ion conductor reaching about 0.33 S/cm at 600° C. in 3% H2O/air and reaching about 0.38 S/cm at 600° C. in 3% H2O/H2. |
