摘要 A display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first polarization element film which is directly formed on a surface of the second substrate on a side opposite to a side where the first substrate is arranged, and a first polarization layer which is formed in contact with a surface of the first polarization element film on a side opposite to a side where the second substrate is arranged. The first polarization element film is made of an aligned lyotropic liquid crystal material, and the first protective layer is made of a material having a refractive index smaller than a refractive index of the first polarization element film in a transmission axis direction, and has a thickness smaller than a thickness of the first polarization element film.

A display device comprising: a first substrate; a second substrate; a first polarization element film which is formed on a surface of the second substrate on a side opposite to a side where the first substrate is arranged; and a first protection layer which is formed in contact with a surface of the first polarization element film on a side opposite to a side where the second substrate is arranged, wherein the first polarization element film is made of an aligned lyotropic liquid crystal material, the first protective layer is made of a material having a refractive index smaller than a refractive index of the first polarization element film in a transmission axis direction, and has a thickness smaller than a thickness of the first polarization element film, (n2/n1)2=ns/no, where the n2 is the refractive index of the first polarization element film in the transmission axis direction, the n1 is the refractive index of the first protection layer, the ns is a refractive index of the second substrate, and the no is a refractive index of air, the thickness of the first protection layer is at least 60 nm and no greater than 190 nm.
