The present invention relates to novel bacterial and mycobacterial compositions containing RNA and cell walls, and methods for making and using these compositions. These compositions have immune stimulating and anti-cancer activity.

1. A composition comprising mycobacterial cell wall fragments and associated mycobacterial RNA,
wherein the the mycobacterial cell wall fragments and the associated mycobacterial RNA are isolated from mycobacterial cells, wherein the composition does not contain phenol or Streptomyces griseus protease, and wherein the mycobacterial RNA is in the form of oligoribonucleotides and polyribonucleotides about 2 to about 150 bases in length.
