The bypass line branches off from the coolant circuit upstream of the cylinder head and returns to the coolant circuit downstream of the cylinder head.

1. A liquid cooled internal combustion engine comprising:
at least one cylinder head; a coolant circuit comprising at least one coolant jacket integrated into the cylinder head, a feed line for supplying coolant to the coolant jacket, a discharge line for discharging the coolant from the coolant jacket, and a return line having a heat exchanger, the return line having one end coupled to the discharge line and a second end in communication with the feed line; and a bypass line having a shut off element, the bypass line connects the feed line to the discharge line to bypass the cylinder head when the shut off element is in an open state.
