1,129,027. Sieve drum driers. VEPA A.G. 11 Nov., 1966 [11 Dec., 1965], No. 50632/66. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D1] In the treatment of textile material, e.g. drying or washing, with a gaseous or liquid treatment medium forced radially through the material as it passes over stationary sieve drums 4, the free area of the drum jacket available for the passage of the treatment medium is equal to at least 60% of the appertaining drum jacket area. Each drum preferably consists of the lateral bottoms 9 and 10 connected by struts B threaded at their ends. As a drum jacket a fine wire mesh is used which is soldered or welded to the drum bottoms and which can be tensioned by adjusting the drum bottoms. Alternatively, the mesh 14 is fastened to two rings which can be adjusted axially of the drum bottoms by means of screws (Fig. 2 not shown). A baffle 15 interrupts the suction draft at the drum periphery which is free from material. In further embodiments, the drum jacket is made of expanded metal, or is designed in a honeycombed shape, the jacket consisting of cranked sheet strips connected with each other.
