The present invention relates to an apparatus for correcting image distortion and a method thereof. The image correcting apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a function detecting unit for detecting a function of transforming pixel coordinate values of a test image into pixel coordinate values of a distorted test image using the distorted test image generated by projecting the test image to a projector; a correcting unit for receiving coordinate values of partial pixels constituting the test image, and generating and storing the coordinate values of the pixels in accordance with reverse transformation using a reverse transformation function with respect to the function; and an output image generating unit for receiving a target image, transforming the coordinate values of the pixels of the target image into the stored coordinate values and generating the output image. The present invention can rapidly and conveniently correct the distorted image displayed on a screen by a mathematical method, not by other special non-spherical lens. In addition, the present invention contracts a correcting coordinate in a horizontal and vertical direction, stores and inputs the contracted correcting coordinate, thereby reducing a storage space needed for storing the correcting coordinate and a bandwidth needed for inputting the coordinate. |
