The invention improves a known adaptive homogeneity-directed (AHD) method for interpolating missing tristimulus values on pixels of an image sensor with color filter in one of three colours, for example RGB, in front of each pixel (such as the Bayer filter of Figure 1). The improvements comprise different variants of individual method steps, provided individually or in combination. The method employs the horizontal (vertical) colour differences for calculating the horizontal (vertical) red and blue values. According to the invention, first the missing blue values are calculated at the red pixels and the missing red values are calculated at the blue pixels (step 2a). Only then are the missing blue and red values at the green pixels calculated, as indicated in step 2b. The method further comprises the calculation of homogeneity values (also in the CIELAB space) in order to select the horizontal or vertical tristimulus values.
|
