<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjustment device improved in tracking performance by enabling the selection of an optimum focus detection position on the basis of the position of a tracked subject even in the case where a subject moves greatly or the case where a subject is moved out of a focus detection area due to camera shake or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The focus adjustment device with a plurality of focus detection areas comprises: setting means for setting, as an extraction area, a photometric area corresponding to a specified tracked subject and for holding the photometric information of the extraction area; and subject tracking means for successively detecting, as tracked subject positions, from photometric information output successively, photometric areas that have photometric information similar to the photometric information of the extraction area held by the setting means. In the case where the detected tracked subject position is within a focus detection area, focus detection is carried out by using a focus detection area corresponding to the tracked subject position. In the case where the detected tracked subject position is outside the focus detection area, focus detection is carried out by using a focus detection area near the tracked subject position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
