摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell electrode catalyst large in specific surface area and high in catalyst performance, and a method for producing the fuel cell electrode catalyst.SOLUTION: A method for producing a fuel cell electrode catalyst includes: a step (1) of mixing at least a metal compound (1), a nitrogen-containing organic compound (2) and a solvent to obtain a catalyst precursor solution; a step (2) of removing the solvent from the catalyst precursor solution; and a step (3) of subjecting a solid residue obtained in the step (2) to a heat treatment at a temperature of 500-1,300°C to obtain an electrode catalyst. In the method, at least a part or whole of the metal compound (1) is a compound containing a metal element M1 selected from among zinc, germanium and indium, as a metal element, and at least one component other than the solvent among the components used in the step (1) has an oxygen atom.
