<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which suppresses an electrode deterioration in a discharge lamp and can increase power variable width, and a projector. <P>SOLUTION: In a first section, first direct current drive processing and first alternating current drive processing are alternately performed, and in a second section, second direct current drive processing and second alternating current drive processing are alternately performed. As drive current control, the first direct current drive processing performs control for supplying first direct current which starts from a first polarity and is composed of a first polar constituent, the first alternating current drive processing performs control for supplying first alternating current which repeats the first polar constituent and a second polar constituent, the second direct current drive processing performs control for supplying second direct current which starts from a second polarity and is composed of a second polar constituent, the second alternating current drive processing performs control for supplying second alternating current which repeats the first polar constituent and the second polar constituent, and when a prescribed condition is satisfied, change is made such that the length of at least one between a period for performing the first direct current drive processing and a period for performing the second direct current drive processing is shortened. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
