PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a dye for dye-sensitized solar batteries which has a superior photoelectric conversion property; a semiconductor layer having a superior photoelectric conversion efficiency and increased in its sensitivity by such a dye for dye-sensitized solar batteries; and a dye-sensitized solar battery arranged by use of such a semiconductor layer.SOLUTION: A dye for dye-sensitized solar batteries comprises a material expressed by the general formula (1). A semiconductor layer is increased in its sensitivity by the dye. A dye-sensitized solar battery comprises the semiconductor layer.
