<p>The invention relates to a tamper evident lid 1 for a container. The lid 1 includes a top panel 5 and a peripheral skirt 7 extending downwardly from the top panel 5. The lid 1 further includes a hinge line transversing the top panel 5. The hinge line divides the top panel 5 into a first panel section and a second panel section. The first panel section and an associated first section of the peripheral skirt define a closure flap pivotable about the hinge line relative to the second panel section. The lid 1 further includes a retaining band for securing the lid 1 on the container. A portion of the retaining band is connected to the first section of the peripheral skirt 7 by frangible means, wherein when the closure flap is first opened, by pivotal movement of the closure flap about the hinge line, the frangible means breaks to thereby provide evidence that the closure flap has been opened.
