PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination unit capable of reducing luminance irregularity generated in a virtual image of a display image in an HUD device.SOLUTION: An illumination unit 2 comprises a plurality of sets of illumination units 26 aligned in a predetermined reference direction X, each set of illumination unit 26 being constituted by a light source 20 disposed at a conjugate position PI to a visible area across a magnifying optical system and emitting light and a plurality of stages of condenser lenses 21 condensing the light from the light source 20 toward a display. Each set of illumination unit 26 includes an initial-stage lens 22 serving as the condenser lens 21 closest to the light source 20, and a final-stage lens 24 serving as the condenser lens 21 farthest from the light source 20. In each peripheral illumination unit 26s out of the sets of illumination units 26, principal points Pis and Pfs of the condenser lenses 21 of all stages are disposed on a peripheral main ray Rs passing through surroundings of an angle of view in the display and reaching a visible area, and the light source 20 is disposed on the peripheral main ray Rs by being decentralized from an optical axis Ais of the initial-stage lens 22 in the reference direction X. |
