Apparatus for feeding cut logs 10 into magazines 20A, 20B, 20C comprises a conveyer 12 feeding the logs 10 to a shoot 16 and thence on to a chain conveyer 18A. The logs 10 are aligned against a guide 32, Fig. 1 (not shown), and oversize logs 10 are cut to length by a saw 34. At the end of the conveyer 18A each log 10 passes on to a counterweighted gate 36A pivoted at 38A. If the magazine 20A is not full the log 10 passes into the magazine 20A. When the magazine 20A is full a normally vertical resilient plate 42A is bent to interrupt a light beam (which may be infra-red) to cause an electrical control circuit, Fig. 4 (not shown), to close the gate 36A to enable the logs 10 to pass over the magazine 20A to the next magazine 20B. When all magazines 20A, 20B, 20C are full the control circuit switches off the conveyer drives (not shown). |
