An outdoor unit (50) for an air-conditioning apparatus includes at least a heat exchanger (7), a fan (4), a compressor (9), and a box-like casing (1) housing these components and having an air inlet (6) and an air outlet (2). The compressor (9) is arranged at a location other than an air passage in which air having flowed in through the air inlet (6) flows through the heat exchanger (7) and the fan (4) to the air outlet (2).
