1. A method for generating a three-dimensional object suspended in a powder bed, comprising:
(a) providing a powder bed in an enclosure, wherein the powder bed comprises individual particles formed of a powder material selected from the group consisting of an elemental metal, metal alloy, ceramic, and an allotrope of elemental carbon; (a) generating the three-dimensional object from a portion of the powder material, wherein upon generation the three-dimensional object is suspended in the powder bed; and (b) leveling an exposed surface of the powder bed such that the three-dimensional object suspended in the powder bed is displaced by about 300 micrometers or less. |
