[Class 9 (i)] A bomb tail adapted to be readily disassembled for transport comprises four members each consisting of a sheetmetal stamping comprising a web 3, Fig. 2, and channelled margins 4, each margin constituting one half of a vane, and whose ends 6 7 are bent inwardly and have attachment flanges 8, 9 formed thereon. The margins with their extensions 6, 7 are bent about the lines 13, 14, through 45 degrees and the four stampings are assembled as shown in Fig..8. The margins are connected in pairs by pressed-out bosses 17, 18, Figs. 3, 4, having holes 19 and clenched on non-rotatable nuts 20 respectively, screws being passed through the holes 19 to engage in the adjacent nuts 20. The bomb tailmember 15, Figs. 7 and 12, to which the vanes are attached, has clenched-on nuts to receive screws passed through the holes in the attachment flanges 8, 19 of the vane members. The tail may be secured to the bomb 16, Fig. 12, by screws 28 passed through the tail into nuts 27 in an extension 26 on the bomb, or the tail may be welded directly to the bomb. |
