<p>Systems and methods for securing data are provided. In one method, stubs are associated with a set of data shares on the file system of a storage network. The data shares are generated from an encrypted data set by an information dispersal algorithm. A set of stubs associated with the data shares is generated, wherein each stub corresponds to a respective data share, and includes information associated with the respective data share. The stubs are then stored in a location on the storage network. In another method for securing data using a portable device, at least two portions of data are generated from a set of data based at least in part on a key, the portions of data and the key being sufficient to reconstruct the set of data, and either the key or at least one of the generated data portions is stored on the portable device. A method for securing the file name of a file to be split and stored on a storage network is also disclosed, as well as a coprocessor acceleration device for acceleration of secure data processing.
