PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a varnish excellent in moldability such as dissolubility, solution storage stability and low melting viscosity, an imide resin composition, a cured article, a prepreg and a fiber reinforced composite material high in thermal and mechanical properties made by using the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a varnish containing (A) aromatic tetracarboxylic acid diesters represented by the formula 1 of 1 to 500 pts.wt., (B) 2-phenyl-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether of 1 to 450 pts.wt., (C) 4-(2-phenylethynyl)phthalic acid monoester of 1 to 100 pts.wt. and (D) an organic solvent of 100 pts.wt. (1), where Ris an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid diesters residue, Rand Rare each independently an aliphatic or aromatic organic group and may be present in the form of a monomer or an isomeric mixture.
