Abstract The disclosure relates to a device for assessing a patient, the device comprising: one or more acoustic producing devices (38) positioned on the patient without impeding airflow; one or more acoustic recording devices (40) positioned on the patient without impeding airflow to gather acoustic properties; and a programmable element (41) to monitor the acoustic properties and convert the acoustic properties into acoustic data of the lungs and thorax; wherein the programmable element uses the acoustic data to estimate lung volumes.
