This invention relates to a base station of a wireless communication system comprising: a plurality of base stations; and a control station that controls the plurality of base stations. The base station comprises: an antenna unit (11) that forms transmission and reception beams; a transmission/reception unit (13) that, when it has been determined in another base station on the periphery of the local station that the handover of a terminal currently communicating with the other base station needs to be implemented, measures the signals currently transmitted by the handover target terminal, i.e., the terminal for which it has been determined that the handover needs to be implemented, to the other base station; and a control unit (15) that notifies a control station of a result of the measurement of the signals as information to be referred to when the control station determines a handover destination of the handover target terminal.
