A system and method for training operators of equipment, such as Cable Avoidance Tools C (CATs), for detecting buried conductive services 3 such as pipes or cables or for testing such equipment. The system comprises in use: a post 1 that is installed with its lower end buried into the ground; and one or more conductive pipes or cables 3 extending laterally from at or proximate the base of the post 1 underground or otherwise hidden from view (e.g. under a tarpaulin). A CAT C operator can connect a genny G (signal generator) to the upper end of the post 1 and then survey the ground around the post 1 to test their skill at correctly determining the location and route of the hidden conductive pipes or cables 3 or to test that their CAT C device is operating properly. The post may comprise a connecting point for the genny G, a handle with which the post may be carried and/or a cable tidy 4. |
