This image projection optical unit is provided with a digital micromirror device which biaxially drives micromirrors that are controlled to be ON or OFF, and with a prism optical system which emits ON-light towards an image projection side, wherein ON-light is the emitted light which is intensity-modulated by the digital micromirror device and reflected by micromirrors in the ON state. In the prism optical system, an optical path is secured which causes OFF-light to be emitted towards the image projection in a direction different from that of the ON-light, wherein the OFF-light is the emitted light which is intensity-modulated by the digital micromirror device and reflected by micromirrors in the OFF state. |
