[Also in Division B8] An apparatus for removing bark from logs comprises an upwardly inclined conveyer B to the lower end of which logs L are fed and discharged over the upper end one at a time to conveyer C in end-to-end relation, a second conveyer D arranged to receive the logs from the conveyer C and discharge them to a debarker E, means to drive the conveyers at relative speeds such that the logs on the second conveyer D are maintained in end-to-end relation and the debarker is supplied substantially continuously with logs, and means 47 to remove the debarked logs from the debarker. The logs are fed to the inclined conveyer by a chain conveyer A and roll down a slide 13 for engagement by lifting attachments 16 on the chains 14 of the inclined conveyer B. The chains run over a plate 22 having slots through which pusher arms 27 are movable by a fluid pressure cylinder 28 to push off all but one of the logs on each attachment so that only one log at a time passes over the upper end of the inclined conveyer and down members 32 into the conveyer C. Conveyer C has an endless chain which is driven over sprockets 38 by a motor 49 and has abutments 34 for engaging the logs and feeding them end-to-end to conveyer D which is substantially identical to conveyer C but is driven at a slower speed about the feed rate of the debarker E which may be of the ring type. The debarked logs are then carried by a conveyer 47 from the debarker to a chipper F.
