A common core electronic multi-role module configured to be soldered on a client electronic system, which is part of the Internet of Things, the module having applications and a networking stack installed on it, the module further being configured to adapt its role depending on an availability of a specific communication interface, the module being configured to connect the client electronic system to a network. The module comprises at least a processor for constrained device; an interface towards the client electronic system; a provided application programming interface intended for the client electronic system; and at least one communication interface configured to interface the core electronic multi-role module with an intended network communication device. The processor for constrained device is a microcontroller. The processor executes at least one embedded application. The processor of the core electronic multi-role module has a networking stack to manage the at least one communication interface. The processor of the core electronic multi- role module runs asymmetric cryptography security primitives to operate as a gateway. The at least one embedded application has specific optimizations and shares resources in that sense for hardware of the core electronic multi-role module.
