A continuous towel dispenser in which a length of soiled towel is pulled out with clean towel against a weight held by brake means and released for retracting towel by timing means comprises a container 29, Fig. 5, with a lockable lid and front 23 within which are spaced brackets 50 on which is hung at 96 spaced mechanism carrying side plates 90 between which is a holder 133 from which clean towel from roll 132 passes over roller 141, to a frictional measuring roll 101 on which the towel is pressed when the front is shut by rollers 152a, 157 on the front. The towel passes around a central block 49 permitting only the sides of the clean towel to be grasped, the soiled towel passing along channel 35, through door 42, over brake roll 57 movable in bracket slot 56, under rolls 71, 72 carried on arms 62 pivoted to lever arms 60 pivoted on brackets 50, and over intermediate bracket roller 58, the arms 60, 62 being about half way down the casing back 29 as in Fig. 14. The towel then goes to a soiled towel roll 121 carried on upwardly sprung levers 116 within the side plates 90 whereby the roll is pressed against a drive roll 107 driven at the same peripheral speed by chain 112, on the casing side of the left-hand side plate, from the drive roll 101. On pulling clean towel at 49, cam 203, Fig. 14, on the casing side of the right-hand side plate, rotates with measuring roll 101 and shifts clockwise a stop plate 208 wobbling on pivot 205a so that timing suction cups 214, 215 are pressed together, a tooth on plate 208 engages a lead screw on the cam axis and moves towards the side plate until a stop dog 200 fixed to the screw abuts a stop 209 on plate 208 to prevent further withdrawal of towel, and a stop plate extension 212 lowers rod 240 and weighted and sprung lever 246 to bring a brake wheel 253 against brake roller 57 in such a way that roller 57 moves clockwise to allow a length of soiled towel to be pulled out with the clean towel thereby lifting rollers 71, 72 on lever 62, but cannot rotate anticlockwise so that lever 62 is supported in its lifted position. On timing out of the cups 214, 215, spring 224 swings plate 208 anti-clockwise and away from the side plate to separate the cups and release brake wheel 253 whereby levers 60, 62 fall under gravity and pull the soiled towel into the casing. When all clean towel is used, the levers fall fully and the rollers 71, 72 approach door 42 and withdraw all soiled towel. On lifting the front and lid 23 a cord 81 lifts levers 60, 62 above the normal high position, roller 58 entering slot 70, whereby removal and re-threading of towel is facilitated and side plates with holder 133 lifted out to remove soiled and renew clean towel rolls.</p> |
