A hopper 15, 16 from which balls 12 are fed individually and in succession, includes an outlet 18 through which pressurized air is passed into the hopper to fluidize the balls in the region of the outlet. Air supplied via a pipe 22, may be fed into the hopper through both perforations in a conical base 16 of the hopper, and the outlet 18. Pressurized air may further be supplied to the upper region of the hopper, which is closed by a lid 19. Balls discharging from the outlet 18 pass along a tube 38 to a counting tube 39 which is provided with vent holes 39 to prevent air locks, the downstream end of the counting tube being formed by a passage 26 in a block 29, which passage is blocked by a spring loaded valve 25. Adjacent the upstream end of the tube 39, a valve 24 is secured and has a member 24b spring loaded into a retracted position permitting the passage of balls through the tube. The upstream end of the counting tube is secured to a plate 27 fixed to the upper end of a spindle 28 which is mounted via a spring 31 on a fixed support 30 and which has its lower end secured to the block 29. When the tube 39 between the two valves 24, 25 is full of balls, the whole counting assembly is manually moved downwards compressing the spring 31 and a plunger 33 on the valve 24 engages and is displaced by the support 30 whereby the valve member 24b is caused to block the tube 39. Simultaneously the valve 25 is opened and a pre-determined number of balls is dispensed from the tube 39. |
