Radio frequency apparatus for combining the outputs of a plurality of electron discharge devices, e.g. klystrons, comprises projecting the beam from each device successively through an interaction gap of each of at least a pair of spaced resonant sections of transmission line, each of the gaps being formed by an active capacitive element, a passive capacitive element being disposed between adjacent active elements in each section to form periodic loading in each section, the active and capacitive elements having substantially equal capacitive values, a standing electromagnetic wave being established in the first of the sections whereby a standing electromagnetic wave is induced in the second of the sections, radio frequency energy being extracted from the second section. One or more further sections may be provided between the input and output sections, each capacitively loaded and each section parallel with the others. The transmission lines may be rectangular waveguides and the whole structure form one evacuated envelope. |
