The present invention relates to a welding torch (100) for welding or a cutting torch for cutting by means of an electric arc (120), said torch comprising a non-consumable electrode (10), the electrode (10) being designed to be supplied with an electric arc current. The invention also relates to a corresponding method and to an electrode (10) for a welding torch (100) for welding or a cutting torch for cutting by means of an electric arc (120). The electrode (10) has a groove region (11) and in this groove region (11) the diameter (12) of the electrode (10) is smaller than in the regions (11a, 11b) of the electrode (10) that adjoin the groove region (11), and/or the electrode has an insulation region, at least part of the cross-sectional area of the electrode in said insulation region being formed of a poorly conductive or non-conductive material, and/or the electrode is designed to be supplied with a heating current, independently of the electric arc current, between two current contact points and/or the welding torch or cutting torch is designed as a plasma welding torch for plasma welding or a plasma cutting torch for plasma cutting and the electrode and another element of the plasma welding torch or plasma cutting torch are designed to be supplied with a pilot electric arc current. A setting device is provided for the pilot electric arc current, by means of which device the pilot electric arc current can be set in accordance with the electric arc current. |
