In a bolt assembly comprising an apertured member 22 with a bolt 15 extending through said aperture perpendicular to said member 22, the bolt is held in position by a bolt retainer 20 formed of resilient sheet metal and comprising an annulus 20a cut and bent to provide circumferentially spaced resilient teeth 20c, each of the teeth having an edge 20h of helical form, the helix being of opposite direction to that of the threads 15c of the bolt shank so that the teeth diagonally engage the crests of the bolt threads. When the bolt retainer has been positioned over the shank of the bolt any face tending to remove the retainer from the shank will embed the teeth into the crests of the bolt threads. Flexibility of the teeth is increased by the provision of slits 20f at the base of the teeth.
