In a motor-vehicle change-speed control having a remote gearshift-lever 7 pivotally mounted by an intermediate ball-and-socket connection 9, 13 and connected at its lower ball end 5 to a cranked end of a turn and shift rod 1, vibrational noise between the ball end 5 and rod 1 is eliminated by a split mild steel liner 37 and polyurethane bush 33 press-fitted therebetween. The lower ball end 5 is case-hardened and engages the wear-resisting liner 37 to hold it expanded and maintain compression of the polyurethane bush 33, which bush has a Shore hardness of A95 and is outwardly flared at its upper end and has a small radial projection 35 at its lower end engaging a recess in the shift rod 1 whereby it is retained.
