522,223. Heating steam boilers by waste gases. SPANNER, E. F. Dec. 9, 1938, No. 35921. [Class 123 (ii)] Waste heat silencer boilers utilizing horizontal thimble tubes, vertical fire tubes or vertical openended water - tubes, which may be part of composite boilers or combined with direct-fired boilers, have manual or automatic water level regulators for controlling the level between the upper and lower limits of the tube rest so as to vary the heating surface in contact with water. A silencer boiler r located above a direct-fired boiler Z from which it is fed by a pump V normally delivers water and steam to boiler Z through high or low branches T1, T2, closure of a valve Y causing steam to be forced only into the water space when steam pressure in boiler Z rises to blowing-off point. Pump V may be controlled manually, or by a steam-pressure device W or by means of water level controls O, P, Q. In another embodiment water is fed to the silencer boiler by gravity from an overhead direct-fired boiler, a valve in the supply pipe being controlled by hand or by means of the steam pressure in the direct-fired boiler. |
