In a playback method in one mode of this disclosure, namely a playback method that a Blu-ray device connected to a display apparatus implements, output control information for content recorded onto a recording medium is acquired from said recording medium, a video signal for said content is acquired from the recording medium, and (a) if the acquired output control information does not restrict output of the content using a first copy-protection technology, the acquired video signal is outputted to the display apparatus without being subjected to an image-quality conversion, whereas (b) if the acquired output control information does restrict output of the content using the first copy-protection technology, and given the type of the display apparatus, output using the first copy-protection technology will be performed, the acquired video signal is outputted to the display apparatus after being subjected to an image-quality conversion. |
