[Class 12 (i)] The outer bearing race of a high-speed electric motor is mounted at the centre of a spider spring or springs. Fig. 1 shows an electric motor suitable for driving the scanning member of a mechanical television apparatus in which a shaft 6 carrying an asynchronous rotor 4, a synchronous rotor 5 and a scanning polygon 7 is mounted in ball bearings 9, 10. The outer thrust race 8 of the bearing 9 is fixed while the outer thrust race of the bearing 10 fits within a bearing bush 11 riveted to the centres of two spider springs 12, 13 fixed at their outer edges to a ring 14 slidably mounted in the casing 1 carrying the stators 2, 3 and pressed outwardly by a spring 16. The thrust on the bearing is adjusted by means of a ring 20 screwing into the casing 1 against the ring 14. To increase the self-aligning properties both bearings may be mounted on spring spiders. |
