1,149,545. Sterile packaging. TETRA PAK A.B. 20 Feb., 1967 [12 April, 1966], No. 7994/67. Heading B8C. A continuous tearable strip 3 and removable tabs 2, affixed either side of a web of packing material 4, are adhered together through apertures 1 which will constitute access openings when the web is formed into a tetrahedral package (Fig. 1, not shown). The tabs 2, of plastics or plastics-coated paper, are heated for adherence over the apertures 1 formed by a punch 11. The other side of the web is then heated by heaters 12 to activate a plastics coating for the adherence of thermoplastics strip 3 led from a reel 13. The strip is pressed on to the web by rollers 14, 15, the roller 14 having a knurled surface to ensure an efficient seal of the strip and the tabs to each other and to the web. A sterilizer 9 treats the plastics-coated surface prior to formation of the web into a tube at 10. The web may be of paper or cardboard, plasticscoated on one or both sides, and may comprise an aluminium lamina. |
