A decorated cast or forged article (2) comprises a printed ink layer (4) including a pigment, a coating layer (3) in contact with a metal top surface (2a) of the cast or forged article (2) and a bottom surface (4b) of the printed ink layer (4, 104), wherein the coating layer (3) has a top surface (3a) which is larger in area than a top surface (4a) of the printed ink layer (4), the top surface (3a) of the coating layer (3) has a surface roughness (31, 32) which is more gentle than a surface roughness (23, 24) of the metal top surface (2a) of the cast or forged article (2), the thickness of at least a part of printed the ink layer (4) is smaller than the maximum thickness of a part in contact with the ink layer (4) of the coating layer (3), and the ink layer (4) is directly printed on the top surface (3a) of the coating layer (3). |
