The present invention provides a breaking apparatus for a glass substrate, reducing a time period required for breaking. The breaking apparatus is used to divide the glass substrate (G) along a first scribe line and a second scribe line, wherein the first scribe line extended in a first direction and the second scribe line extended in a second direction crossing the first direction are formed on the glass substrate (G). The breaking apparatus comprises: a returning belt (2); a first break device (11); and a second break device (12). The returning belt (2) has a holding surface (2a), and returns the glass substrate (G) held by the holding surface (2a) in the first direction. The break device (11) divides the glass substrate (G) held by the returning belt (2) along the first scribe line. The second break device (12) divides the glass substrate (G) held by the returning belt (2) along the second scribe line.
