[Class 81 (ii)] A therapeutic vibrator comprises a flexibly mounted frame vibrated by eccentric means flexibly connected with a separately mounted motor the said eccentric means comprising a shaft eccentrically journalled directly into the flexibly mounted frame only, the vibratory effect being controlled by inertia members mounted on the shaft. The vibratory frame 1 formed of sheet metal has in each of its end walls a ball bearing 3. A shaft 7 extends throughout the frame and is formed with eccentrically disposed ends 8 which fit into the bearing. Keyed to the shaft adjacent the bearings are flywheels 9 having permanent weighted portions attached thereto and others that can be removed in order to adjust their balance. A pulley 15 keyed to the shaft is driven by belt 16 from the pulley 17 of the motor 18 attached to the baseplate 19. Angle brackets 20 which are secured to the lower corners of frame 1, rest on the upper ends of springs 21 resting on rubber washers 22. Bolts 23 extend through the base, washers, springs and brackets and are surrounded by rubber tubes 24, 25. A short length of larger rubber tubing 26 encircles the upper end of the tube above the bracket 20. A foot rest 29 is formed of metal tube. The top 30 slides on the flanges 31 and may be replaced by one enabling the patient to lie down. In operation when the motor is started up the shaft revolves eccentrically but on attaining speed the centrifugal force keeps it steady, the frame 1 being vibrated. |
