<p>A continuous paper web in (1) stretched over a stretching roller, (2) coated with a glazing material (e.g. kaolin, calcium carbonate) between an applicator roller and presser roller which is pneumatically urged against the applicator roller, (3) passed around a second stretching roller, and (4) passed around a large polished, heated glazing roller. The web is pressed against the glazing roller at the entry zone by a pref. rubber covered presser roller which is in turn ured towards the glazing roller by a pneumatic jack mounted auxiliary polished roller, which pref. is partially submerged in water so as to dampen the noncoated surface of the web. The auxiliary roller may be continuously washed with soap soln. and cleaned by a scraper. The process is economic.</p> |
