A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting service discovery information in a multimedia transmission system. Service discovery information, including service access information for reception of a service, is generated. The service discovery information is transmitted after being classified into a plurality of levels.

1. A method for transmitting service discovery information in a multimedia transmission system, comprising the steps of:
generating service discovery information including service access information for reception of a service; classifying portions of the service discovery information into a plurality of levels according to an importance of each portion of the service discovery information; and transmitting, to a receiver, each level of the plurality of levels including each portion of the service discovery information a number of times based on a level of the plurality of levels to which each portion is classified, each level of the plurality of levels corresponding to a different number of times for transmission, and the number of times for transmission increasing as the importance increases.
