The present invention relates to a power assistance apparatus using a power factor improvement circuit and a battery. The power assistance apparatus prevents a current value inputted from an alternating current power source from exceeding an installed capacity of the alternating current power source due to an increase in a load of a direct current output terminal. The power assistance apparatus includes: a power factor improvement unit which improves a power factor of the alternating current power source by using a switch device and outputting a direct current; an auxiliary power source which assists the direct current output of the power factor improvement unit based on an input voltage of the alternating current power source and the load; and a power control unit which controls whether or not the auxiliary power source is driven based on the input voltage of the alternating current power source.
