The present invention relates to an electromagnetic contactor and a control method thereof, capable of preventing degradation of a contact point by eliminating an arc generated in turning a relay switch on or off and simplifying a structure of the electromagnetic contactor. The electromagnetic contactor of the present invention comprises: a relay switching controller generating a relay switching signal at zero crossing in inputting an opening/closing signal; a constant voltage generator generating an electromagnet driving signal according to the switching signal generated by the relay switching controller; and an electromagnet operating according to the electromagnet driving signal generated by the constant voltage generator to control a relay switch which supplies AC power to a load, wherein the relay switch is always attached to and detached from the contact point at zero crossing to prevent a spark (an arc) from occurring. |
