PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect slight sticking of a steel cord strand from a surface of a handrail.SOLUTION: A safety apparatus for passenger conveyor comprises: a detection part 10 which is brought into contact with a surface of a handrail 2 of an escalator 1 in which a steel cord 2a is provided as a tension member; and an oscillation circuit 100 for detecting electrical connection between a strand 2c of the steel cord 2a projected to the surface of the handrail 2 from inside of the handrail 2 and the detection part 10. The handrail 2 is made to travel in a state that the detection part 10 is pressed against or brought into contact with the surface of the handrail 2, change of outgoing frequency of the oscillation circuit 100 is detected, and based on the change, presence/absence of projection of the strand 2c of the handrail 2 is detected. |
