Headings B8D, B8P and B8T. [Also in Division A4] A container comprises a neck and a brush mounted on a closure for the container, the brush being protected by a tube. The tube and brush are slidable relative to each other so that when the brush is removed from the container it projects from the tube. In one form a container 1, of metal or plastics and for, e.g. cosmetics, has a brush 23, mounted by means of its stem 19 on a button 25 in a closure 2, protected by a tube 18. The closure 2 can be unscrewed from a neck 7 of the container, inverted, and screwed back on to the neck by means of a thread 31, whereupon the neck 7 abuts the button 25 and causes a spring 28 to be compressed, so effecting the projection of the brush 23 from the tube 18. Reversing this operation allows the tube 18 to be spring returned to the position shown, protecting the brush 23 when it is pushed through a resilient sealing gland 12 and replaced in the container 1. The gland 12 wipes excess liquid from the tube when removing the brush and a sealing ring 33 prevents leakage through the tube 18 into the closure 2. In modifications, turning an end-knob (63), Fig. 5 (not shown), or a cylindrical easing (107), Fig. 10 (not shown), around the closure, acts through diametrically opposed lugs engaged in longitudinal slots (82 or 82a) and helicoidal grooves (83 or 83a), and causes the protecting tube to slide along the brush. In another modification, the protector tube (75), Fig. 13 (not shown), is fixed on a sleeve (117) which slides between shoulders (122, 125) in the closure, where it is retained in brush covering and uncovering positions.</p> |
