PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fine carbon fiber which is produced by a vapor growth method and is high in surface crystallinity.SOLUTION: A fine carbon fiber uses a catalyst containing cobalt, magnesium and aluminum and is produced by a vapor growth method and forms a bell-shaped structural unit having a top part in which a graphite net surface composed of carbon atoms alone is closed and a trunk part with the lower part opened. The angle &thetas; of the generator line of the trunk part to the fiber axis is 15° or smaller; 2-30 bell-shaped structural units are piled with their central axes shared to form aggregates; and the aggregates are connected together at intervals in a heat-to-tail manner to form a fiber. The ratio (I/I) of the D band (close to 1350 cm-1) to the G band (close to 1590 cm-1), in the Raman spectroscopic analysis, is 1.5 or lower. |
