The present invention relates to a method to generate a weakness line (2) in a cover member (1) including at least one slit (21). The slit (21) is formed through a plurality of mechanical machining cycles, and energy of a laser pulse is guided on the cover member (1) along a virtual line in the mechanical machining cycle, thereby introducing the energy of the laser into the cover member (1). The slit (21) is introduced two segments. More energy is introduced through the mechanical machining cycle in a relatively shorter first segment (4) rather than a relatively longer second segment. A residual wall below the slit (21) is reduced by each mechanical machining process until a first residual wall thickness (r4) in the first segment (4) becomes small and then an energy part is transmitted through the first residual wall segment (4), and the transmitted energy is detected by a sensor device (8) arranged on a lower side. As such, the first residual wall segment thickness (r4) is detected, and interference can be obtained in a second residual wall segment thickness (r5). |
