PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine variable valve gear capable of holding the position of a switching pin in an axial direction of a camshaft and accurately moving a cam carrier in the axial direction of the camshaft.SOLUTION: A cam switching unit 5 includes a locking mechanism 80 that includes lock members 83 and 84 engageable with a piston 53, and that moves the piston 53 to an engagement position at which the piston 53 is prevented from moving by engaging the lock member 83 and 85 with the piston 53 and to a disengagement position at which the lock members 83 and 84 are disengaged from the piston 53. Furthermore, the locking mechanism 80 includes lock member accommodation chambers 85 and 86 formed in a housing 52, accommodating therein the lock members 83 and 85, causing a hydraulic pressure to act on base portions 83a and 84a of the lock members 83 and 84 in a direction from one of the engagement position and the disengagement position to the other position; and coil springs 87 and 88 energizing the lock members 83 and 84 in a direction from the other position to one position out of the engagement position and the disengagement position. |
