PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the hue of a display screen in a configuration to improve the efficiency of use of light emitted from a primary light source by using a reflection type polarizer.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal display panel 3, a reflection type polarizer 19, a 1/4 wavelength plate 18 that provides a phase difference of a 1/4 wavelength to transmitted light, light control sheets 14, 15, 16, and 17 that control the directivity of the transmitted light, and a light guide plate 12, which are laminated in order. The 1/4 wavelength plate 18 has anomalous dispersion wavelength characteristics where the phase difference to be provided to the transmitted light increases as the wavelength of the transmitted light increases with respect to reflection light of the reflection type polarizer 19, and the light control sheets 14, 15, 16, and 17 are formed of a refractive index isotropic material. |
